"Compassionate Care...Hometown Values"
Lackawanna Ambulance began on August 4, 1998 as a small group of emergency service workers in the greater Scranton area who were determined to bring locally controlled ambulance services to people of the region. We have grown into a 10-year story of service and achievement now employing over 130 staff members and responding to thousands of emergent and non-emergent calls on a monthly basis.
Today, Lackawanna Ambulance features ambulances which are all PA DOH licensed and equipped with the latest technology, including GPS tracking.
The idea to establish Lackawanna Ambulance was born out of a desire to ensure that control for such an important service was exercised by local people who were charged with caring for local people. The founding team, many of whom are still part of the Lackawanna Ambulance organization, featured paramedics with a diverse array of backgrounds and skills who came together with a common goal of creating a locally controlled emergency service organization.
In 1998 with two employees and two used ambulances, the company responded to its first call at Mid Valley Hospital. After that, using a door-to-door approach which centered on demonstrating care, compassion and concern for those who needed medical transportion, Lackawanna Ambulance grew from its beginning to its present position as the region's leader in emergent and non-emergent medical transportation.
